Laser Hair Removal Care

Pre-Treatment

Preparing for laser treatments is straightforward but important for both safety and optimal outcomes. Please follow these steps before your appointment:

  • Shave the treatment area within 24 hours of your appointment.
  • Avoid waxing, tweezing, depilatory creams (like Nair), and bleaching for at least 4 weeks before treatment — and for the entire duration of your sessions.
  • Discontinue Accutane (isotretinoin) at least 1 year prior to starting any laser hair removal treatments.
  • Pause chemical peels for 2–4 weeks before and after laser sessions.
  • Stop using topical retinoids (Retin-A, Renova, Tazorac, Differin, Atralin) for 2 weeks before and after treatment.
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for 2–4 weeks before and after each session.
  • Apply SPF 45+ daily to all treated areas throughout your series.
  • These steps help protect your skin barrier, prevent adverse reactions, and ensure consistent results.

Post-Treatment

Laser treatments are generally well-tolerated with little to no downtime. Following proper aftercare supports healing, enhances results, and minimizes the risk of irritation.

Immediately After Treatment

  • Mild redness and swelling are normal and may feel similar to a light sunburn. This usually resolves within a few hours to a couple of days.
  • Apply cold compresses or ice packs in 15–20 minute intervals to reduce heat or discomfort.
  • Use pure aloe vera gel to soothe and hydrate the treated area.
  • Makeup may be applied unless blistering or irritation occurs.
  • You may shower as usual and use mild soaps or deodorants.

Ongoing Skin Care

  • Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 1–2 weeks. Always wear SPF 45+ when outdoors.
  • Do not pick, scratch, or exfoliate aggressively. Gentle exfoliation can begin 3–5 days after treatment, twice weekly, to encourage hair shedding and prevent ingrown hairs.
  • Avoid shaving for 3–4 days post-treatment, or until sensitivity subsides.
  • Do not wax, tweeze, or use depilatory creams during your treatment course.
  • Shedding is normal — you may see hair releasing from follicles in the days following treatment. This is not new growth but treated hair being expelled.

If you notice blistering, scabbing, or unusual irritation, please contact the spa promptly for evaluation.

Pre- and post-care instructions apply only to areas treated with laser hair removal.

Pixel Laser Resurfacing Care

Pre-Treatment

  • Discontinue retinoids, acids, or exfoliants for 1–2 weeks before treatment.
  • Avoid sun exposure, self-tanner, and spray tans for 2–4 weeks.
  • Hydrate well and arrive with clean, product-free skin.

Post-Treatment

  • Expect redness, mild swelling, or a sandpaper-like texture for several days.
  • Use a gentle cleanser and barrier-protective moisturizer as instructed by your provider.
  • Avoid hot water, steam rooms, and direct sun for at least 5 days.
  • Do not pick or exfoliate the flaking skin; allow it to naturally shed.
  • SPF 45+ daily is essential to protect healing skin and prevent pigmentation.
  • You may apply mineral makeup once the skin no longer feels tender or warm, usually within 2–3 days.

Healing typically occurs within 5–7 days, with continued collagen remodeling and visible improvement over the next several weeks.

IPL Phototherapy Care

Pre-Treatment

  • Avoid tanning, self-tanner, or prolonged sun exposure for at least 2–4 weeks prior.
  • Discontinue retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, and exfoliating acids for 5–7 days before treatment.
  • Pause use of photosensitizing medications if advised by your provider.
  • Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin and avoid applying lotions or perfume on the day of treatment.

Post-Treatment

  • Expect mild redness or warmth for a few hours; apply a cool compress as needed.
  • Brown spots may temporarily darken (“pepper”) before flaking off over 5–7 days.
  • Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer for 3–5 days; avoid scrubs and exfoliants.
  • Avoid heat exposure, saunas, and vigorous exercise for 24–48 hours.
  • Apply SPF 30+ daily and reapply frequently when outdoors.
  • Do not pick or scratch treated areas — allow pigment to lift naturally.

Results develop gradually over several days and continue to improve with each session.
